We are fortunate for the early summer rains in our region. However, standing water as low as 1 inch or less can provide breeding areas for mosquitos. Once a female finds a blood source and mates, it can lay up to 300 eggs. These eggs will hatch into wrigglers, technically called larvae, then pupate into feeding adults within a handful of days. This quick growth period makes it crucial for us to stay on top of eliminating standing water sources which are a major contributor to mosquito breeding.
To reduce the breeding mosquito population around your home and property, routinely check and dump all standing water and debris. This is the best strategic preventative measure. You may also choose to cover certain items to remove the threat altogether. Sharing this easy preventative information with your neighbors, friends, and family can help reduce the mosquito population in our communities.
